Every year we play a game at our house. My husband picks one thing he wants to do and I pick another and we compare at the end of the year as to who picked the best what. Our focus for 2009 was the outside living area in our backyard, which looked like something out of a dried up lot! If you want an interesting looking bonsai tree that’s a bit different from the standard Japanese bonsai trees, you may be interested in the Amur Maackia. This is an outdoor bonsai tree that actually comes from Russia. It features leaves that are slightly smaller than normal, and it’s a fairly slow growing bonsai tree. It features brown bark that has a shine to it, especially as the tree gets older. The Amur Maackia is a very hardy tree, and it’s also resistant to pests as well.
