From Russia with Love: The Amur Maackia Bonsai

If you want an interesting looking bonsai tree that’s a bit different from the standard Japanese bonsai trees, you may be interested in the Amur Maackia. This is an outdoor bonsai tree that actually comes from Russia. It features leaves that are slightly smaller than normal, and it’s a fairly slow growing bonsai tree. It features brown bark that has a shine to it, especially as the tree gets older. The Amur Maackia is a very hardy tree, and it’s also resistant to pests as well. When this Russian bonsai gets older, the white flowers that appear on it will start to stand up above its leaves. The Amur Maackia also features some very interesting above-ground roots. Read more…

Frederick the Literate Cat Throw by Wysocki

Folk artist Charles Wysocki is famous for his intricately detailed scenes of Americana. But he is equally celebrated by cat lovers for his droll portraits of various cat characters. In Frederick the Literate Cat, an adorable gray tabby cat sleeps comfortably on a library shelf. He has carefully insinuated himself among the books and now is completely at ease, one leg draped over the shelf’s edge. The shelves are decorated with carved birds and fish. The spines of the leather books show them to be well read and well worn. Their titles reflect Wysocki’s waggish sense of humor: Cat-O-Nine-Tales, Delicious Field Mice I Have Known, A Tale Of Two Kitties, The Feline Comedy, Field Guide To The Garbage Can. You can have this charming picture in your own home – in the form of a deliciously soft throw. This Frederick the Literate Cat Throw by Wysocki is perfect to snuggle up in or to give to the cat fancier on your list. Read more…

A Garden Shed is a Great Storage Problem Solver even for Small Yards

Not everyone has an acre of yard space at their disposal; some don’t even have a fraction of that. Some of us frankly, are the proud owners of a yard the size of a postage stamp. But even a postage stamp sized yard needs a lawn mower, weed whip, rake, fertilizer spreader, hose, sprinkler (who springs for underground sprinkling for a postage stamp) and assorted items like hedge trimmers, spade, weed puller, etc. So what is a person supposed to do with all that stuff because we all know there’s only so much room in a garage and that space was intended for the car(s). That is where the garden shed comes in; you can get one with double doors on the front, a 78″ high ceiling so it’s easy to get things in and out of and it fits quite nicely along the wall on the outside of the garage! The wall columns are metal reinforced so it is very sturdy and more than capable of holding all the yard gear. Read more…
